MEERA | 17 DAYS NEW: A NEWBORN SESSION

The name of this post may be a little deceiving. At this point sweet baby Meera is two days past the two month mark. But with the dog days of summer came an admitted major slow down on my part keeping the blog up to date. With another newborn session scheduled for tomorrow, I knew it was time to get my butt in gear and get the Patel’s newbornsession up.

When I arrived at the Patel house in Woodbridge, I was greeted with such hospitality and warmness from Pranav offering me a cold drink to beat the summer heat. I was also greeted by the most gorgeous head of dark hair in the form of baby Meera! I had brought all my props, headbands and blankets over, but when Niketa joined us downstairs shewas the most prepared new mama I have ever seen with a handful of the cutest tutu and bow combos. She also was carrying the Sari she had worn to her brother’s wedding with the request that we got a few shots of Meera with it. Um, YES PLEASE! It made for a gorgeous backdrop, but even better it will be a memory they’ll have forever.

We started the session in Meera’s nursery, which was the perfect backdrop of a soft grey. When passing Pranav and Niketa’s bedroom I noticed the beautiful headboard of their bed that I knew would also be a great place to shoot against. I mentioned it to Niketa and although she had to straighten up the sheets, she was totally game. The part of me that had recently been a new mom knew she must have hated me in that moment because at that point you’re just trying to survive, let alone worry about a made bed. But I hope you’ll forgive me Niketa because we got some of the most genuine shots of the family laughing that are some of my absolute favorites.

When scheduling newborn sessions photographers will often tell you the best time to get those dreamy photos of your baby asleep is sometime in the first two weeks, and being that Meera was already 17 days old we had to work for most of the session to get her into a deep sleep. But I’m so glad we did because we got some of our best photos in the last 20 minutes of our session. When I tell you this family was up for anything and made my job easy, I can’t mean it enough. So Patel family, I hope this is a day you won’t forget because it’s certainly not one I will anytime soon! Thank you for being so easy going and letting me get some of my favorite photos to date! Enjoy!
