The best time to ask for review: Kate Dye, Charleston photographer and educator, shares how to get better reviews for your photography buisness

Over the last few weeks, we’ve started to dive deep into why reviews for your business are so important. Then, last week I shared the #1 way to get those reviews from clients. Now that you’re (hopefully!) starting to realize that reviews are a necessary part of your business model, let’s talk about when to ask for those reviews. I’ve found there’s a sweet spot to reach out to my Ride or Dye clients. Honestly, I found it by trial and error, but I hope it helps you with your clients, too.

The magic window? I believe that one week after their full gallery is delivered is the best time to ask for a review. No matter what kind of photographer you are, I’ve found this to really be a great time in your experience together to ask for reviews!

Why one week?

One week after the full gallery is delivered is a great time to ask for a review because you’re still fresh in their minds! There’s really nothing more exciting than receiving your new photos – whether it’s your wedding day or the newest family session. You want (and need!) to capitalize on that as the photographer. A week after the gallery has been sent, the excitement is sinking in.  And most important: you, your business + experience are still fresh in their minds. They’re still going to remember what it was like working with you and with that “new photo glow” still happening, they’re going to be even more excited!

Remember, your clients aren’t going to bite! Just reach out and ask them to talk about how working with you went and what they loved most.

Kelly and Steven are part of the 2021 #rideodyecouple family that waited longer than most to finally make it to their Charleston wedding. Having to postpone their wedding date not once, but twice due to CoVid wasn’t an easy decision, but it made their day at Cannon Green even sweeter when it finally arrived. When I walked into Kelly’s getting ready Airbnb, […]

As a Charleston wedding photographer,  I have to admit that I see a lot of really beautiful big gatherings, but lately there’s been a very special place in my heart for intimate elopements and gatherings.  And that’s exactly what Hannah and Matthew’s day was. A small gathering of just their nearest and dearest on the […]
