I am so excited about sharing this gorgeous maternity session in Old Town Alexandria because it’s the first time I got to work with a professional model. Now I know what you’re thinking… Logyn is drop dead gorgeous, but I’m actually talking about Ryan. It’s a well known fact in our friend group that he was a baby model. Now to be honest, to this day I don’t know if that story was a joke, if it really happened, or what, but it makes me laugh every time. Ryan is one of the funniest people I know and the way he seriously commits to telling you about his glory days of early 90s toddlerhood mugging for the camera would make Zoolander proud. Now all that’s missing is the photographic evidence.
In all seriousness though, Logyn & Ryan (or Gatti as we lovingly refer to him) are some of my favorite people in the world. I was lucky enough to meet them back in my Virginia Tech days and it was people like them that made being Charleston bound a few months ago a little bit harder. So when I was recently up in New Jersey photographing a wedding and visiting my parents and I found out Logyn & Ryan’s co-ed baby shower would be the following weekend I decided to extend the trip to drive down to Washington, D.C. to help celebrate the parents-to-be and their little guy on the way, Jaxon. We also planned some pictures for Friday night, but mother nature had her own plans and torrentially down poured up and down the East Coast. So Instead, I drove down Saturday morning with my sister, went to the shower that day, got up bright and early on Sunday to meet Logyn & Ryan for pictures in the a.m. and then hopped on a train back to NJ. A whirlwind weekend to say the least.
BUT I am so glad it rained that Friday night because Sunday morning the streets of Old Town Alexandria were quite and pretty much empty, leaving us with free reign of the charming city. When I tell you that I didn’t take advantage enough of what a quaint and beautiful place Old Town is when I lived so close to it, I mean it. With the help of a fellow Nats fan, we found the prettiest ally way filled with vibrant pink flowers to compliment Logyn’s dress, and took advantage of one unknowing neighbor’s gorgeous rose garden. And by the way, isn’t that blue ruffled dress not one of the cutest maternity dresses you’ve ever seen?
So with modeling roots, his dad’s sense of humor, and BOTH his mom’s gorgeous face and heart in his DNA, I’d say the chips are stacked in baby Jaxon’s favor. Can’t wait to meet you little guy. And see your best Blue Steel.
