From the second Justin and Katie stepped out of their car for their engagement session I just knew it was going to be one for the books. A gown that made Katie’s eyes pop like the color of the sky? Check. A dapper gentleman who was walking around the car to open the door for his bride-to-be? Check. A couple who together looked like they stepped out of the pages of a magazine and were ready to conquer Charleston with their charm? Double check. Can you hear that? That’s the sound of my photographer heart doing cartwheels.
Katie and I first connected last spring when a mutual friend tagged her in the comments of my the blog post of my very first wedding. We met a few days later and when we hit it off she would become my very first Charleston #kdyebride! I (obviously) started following both her and Justin on instagram, and discovered they are both talented photographer themselves. Check them out at@homesweetcharleston and @justinclarkphoto, respectively! Knowing this I knew how much they would value the photographs and it felt even more like it was a match made in heaven.
When I suggested starting their session at Hampton Park to take advantage of the beautiful spanish moss, I expected them to say yes. What I didn’t expect was for Katie to suggest we take a lift shot, but she did, and man am I happy about that. They nailed it! From their we wandered around downtown Charleston, but the best of all was that we ended the night at the beach at Sullivan’s Island. More than just being a beautiful spot, it was also where Katie and Justin first said I love you, so it was only fitting that it was a part of these photos.
Katie and Justin, I absolutely cannot wait to capture your wedding at the Historic Rice Mill in February. If your style choices here are any indication of that day, I know it’s going to be spectacular. But more importantly, I am excited to continue the friendship we have started because you two are fun, and kind, and talented, and if I am honest, I could go on. I hope these photographs are ones you’ll cherish for a lifetime and have captured both the city you love as well as your own!
