I am not quite sure if I have ever shot a wedding with quite so many personal touches as all the ones that were present in Erin and Adam’s wedding this past November at The Dewberry Hotel in downtown Charleston. Erin and Adam managed to incorporate so much of what is important to them and their families in their wedding, that I am positive it is a day none of them will ever forget. But let’s go back to the beginning….
Adam took Erin to The Dewberry Hotel for their first date where they say in the lobby bar called The Library and talked for hours that first night. Being that the two also live in downtown Charleston, when it was time for the two of them to get married, they knew that having their wedding at the place they first met and fell in love would be the perfect setting for their big day. Add into that a ceremony at Adam’s family Church, First Scots Presbyterian, also in downtown Charleston, and you had the makings for a beautiful wedding day.
Unfortunately, mother nature had her own plans in mind. Strong winds and rain mean many of their original plans had to be put aside for backup plans. But despite the gale force winds and sideways rain, the day was filled with such an outpouring of love, both from Adam and Erin’s guests toward the two of them, but also from the two of them towards their guests. Being that Adam is in the publishing business, this sweet and thoughtful bride and groom decided to create a bookshelf display where guests found a personalized copy of the book, “Charleston from Above” with a hand written note from the bride and groom. Paired with a favor of custom coffee beans, and the entire display was one of the most creative and thoughtful things I have ever seen a bride and groom do for their guests, which speaks to the kind of hearts these two have.
However, that wasn’t the only surprise up Adam’s sleeve. Being that the two also had gelato on their first date, Adam surprised both Erin and their guests with a gelato cart during their reception, serving their favorite flavors. The look on Erin’s face when she saw this sweet gesture from her new husband was absolutely priceless. And to go along with the book them that they had created as gifts for their family and friends who had traveled from near and far to get to Charleston, the entire reception was decorated with copies of classic novels such as “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Both the creativity and careful thought that went into their day by Erin and Adam was something that truly blew me away.
And after all was said and done the two also wanted to sneak away during cocktail hour to take a photo at the very table in the lobby of The Dewberry where they sat at that very first date. Talk about having a full circle moment.
Erin and Adam, the love you have both for each other, and also for those around you is so incredibly evident, that you could not just see it the day of your wedding, but you could feel it. It may have been a cold one outside, but the warmth that radiated throughout the ballroom at The Dewberry was nothing short of magical. I am so lucky to have been a part of capturing a love that is so pure, two people who are as thoughtful as you, and two families coming together. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it all. It truly is a day I will never forget.
